Marginal decline in Derry/Strabane COVID-19 rate as prevalence increases across the north

The seven-day COVID-19 case rate in Derry/Strabane declined marginally on Wednesday and is still the fourth lowest in the north, according to the latest data released by the Department of Health.

Between December 9 and December 15, there were 256 positive coronavirus cases in Derry and Strabane giving a seven day rate of 165.3, which was down from 169.9 on Tuesday.

Ards and North Down (73.3), Belfast (116.9) and Lisburn and Castlereagh (132.9) all posted lower rates than Derry/Strabane.

Seven areas are now recording higher rates than Derry. These are: Mid and East Antrim (272.7), Newry, Mourne and Down (230.9), Mid Ulster (202.7), Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon (195.2), Causeway Coast and Glens (182.3), Antrim and Newtownabbey (178.7) and Fermanagh and Omagh (176.3).

The average for the north is now 176.8.

The daily change in the cumulative number of patients with a positive test in Derry and Strabane between December 14 and December 15 was 31.

In total 7,517 people have now tested positive for the illness in Derry and Strabane.
