Ms. Mullan: “I met with Council to discuss lighting up the paths at Bay Road Park and along the riverside walkway at Foyle Road.

“These pathways have been increasingly popular during the ongoing pandemic with many more people making use of them.

“I was delighted to hear that the Council is preparing funding applications for installing lights in both locations in order to increase the usage of these greenways. I also raised this issue with the Infrastructure Minister on the need to work alongside councils to improve street lighting.”

Asked by Ms. Mullan about the matter in the Assembly Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon said: “As Minister for Infrastructure, I want to ensure that we make women feel safe, and an important part of that is street lighting.

“The Member will be aware that I allocated a budget to ensure that we could have a full 12-month repair of our street lighting, but I am keen to work with councils and others to see what more we can do to ensure that, yes, we are lighting our spaces to make them attractive but also, importantly, so that women and young girls and everyone who wants to go out walking can do so and feel safe.”
