Over 7,000 have tested positive for COVID-19 in Derry/Strabane as Mid and East Antrim posts highest case rate in the north

Over 7,000 people in Derry and Strabane have now tested positive for COVID-19 since the pandemic began while Mid and East Antrim has overtaken the district as the area with the highest seven day prevalence rate for the virus.

Between November 25 and December 1, there were 308 positive coronavirus cases in Derry and Strabane giving a seven day case rate of 204.4 per 100,000 people, which is virtually the same as the 205.7 figure that was reported yesterday.

That's still higher than it was on Friday, November 13 (201.8).

Derry/Strabane now has the second highest prevalence rate for the illness. It has been overtaken by Mid and East Antrim where 300 people tested positive over the past seven days. The case rate there is now 216.5 - the highest in the north.

The seven day average case rate for the north per 100,000 people is now 138.2.

In total 7002 people have now tested positive for the illness in Derry and Strabane.
