Over a hundred people have died with COVID-19 in Derry/Strabane

There were over a hundred coronavirus deaths registered in Derry and Strabane in the calendar year to the end of last week, according to the latest figures published on Friday by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA).

A hundred and three people have now died locally. That's 8.8 per cent of the 1167 deaths from all causes in the Derry and Strabane area this year. There were four COVID-19 related deaths registered in Derry /Strabane in total in week 49.

Across the north in general in the week to Friday, December 11, there were 87 deaths mentioning Covid-19 on the death certificate were registered in week 49, accounting for 23.8% of all deaths in that week and bringing the total number of Covid-19 related deaths registeredin calendar year 2020 to 1,567

According to the NISRA bulletin: "In the calendar year to 11th December, males and females accounted for similar proportions of all deaths registered (males: 49.7%, females: 50.3%) and Covid-19 related deaths registered (males: 49.9%; female: 50.1%)."
