People tell me a lot, that it’s something they would like to increase and have more of.

‘You have lots of confidence.’ Do I?

Ok, quick story . . . I never did but I worked hard at it.

When I started as a personal trainer, way back before Facebook, and Instagram - (Yes, there was such a time) - I had to do a thing called speaking face-to-face to people first. Crazy concept isn’t it? But true!

Well this really scared me to be totally honest. I would shy away from the situation until I realised if I don’t get this done, I’m skint and have no income so get a bloody grip.

All I thought was what will I say? How do I approach them (prospective clients). I’d no training, no sales or marketing training to make use of other than my days selling cigarettes in the markets but believe me it helped.

Making cold calls and walking round the gym floors is how I got clients before I could showcase results. The more I did that the more my confidence grew. Action tramples anxiety.

The more you do something the better you become at it, which then makes you more confident about doing it. It’s normal for us to feel confident in certain areas, and just stay there sticking with what’s familiar and comfortable, but we never grow doing the comfortable things.

Increasing your own self confidence comes from doing the things daily that make you feel better about yourself. Creating positive daily habits will increase confidence; Habits such as exercise, good nutrition, self development, setting and hitting goals, feeling that you are moving forward, feeling of value and staying away from negative people.

Gaining confidence will come from facing fears and just going for it. Once you do, those fears subside.

Our confidence can be easily knocked. Often it can be a fragile thing for many so putting yourself out there and trying to move forward in life can be a daunting experience. And as I referred to last week when I spoke about how people’s opinions of you are none of your business, your confidence in yourself needs to be stronger at these times as you do have to develop a thick skin in life and business if you progress towards what you want.

Like always though, it’s a daily lifestyle habit that you need to maintain. Reading a self help book and thinking your life will be transformed is probably a bit foolish as it won’t be. It can certainly help create the awareness around your behaviours and more but it’s the action steps daily that’s needed to really move forward and increase confidence, learn new skills, get better in certain areas that you really want to improve on in life, etc.

I read, listen, travel, take courses and have my own mentors.

I invest so much each year in myself to be a better person and mentor. This all helps me increase my own self confidence in my ability and, in turn, helps how I feel about myself.

To increase self confidence you also need to face a few fears and repeat the process over and over again.

Before you know it you will be doing the very things you once feared and will have the confidence to push yourself even further.
