Personally I think it is. You see our environment will dictate so much of our thinking and our behaviours.

The people we are surrounded by will influence not only how you think about yourself but the world around you.

“If you are the smartest person in the room, you are in the wrong room.”

A common quote that we have probably all heard but one that is so true when it comes to growing as a person.

The environment you place yourself in is so important.

It only takes one negative opinion over and over again to convince you of why you shouldn’t do all the things you know you really want to do.

Now if you are strong minded and have a strong desire to do what you want, then those opinions won’t have much effect but, most people don’t have that and therefore get easily swayed by others and let negative influences from their environment dictate their actions and goals for life.

Nature (genetics) does have a part to play but it has been shown time and again that nurture (environment) is more important in determining the future you are moving towards.

Epigenetics has shown us that the environment plays a larger role in creating change within.

No longer are you predestined because of hereditary. Change can and will happen, when you want it to.

Getting into the right group of like-minded people will influence your thoughts, your behaviours and your outcomes. People who will lift you up, tell you all the reasons why you should, and even more importantly, show you all the ways you can.

This year we have all found ourselves in an environment that we have never found ourselves in before and we have been learning to adapt, to change and to try and make sense of all the changes that have been happening in our world.

It has been scary and daunting and the rate and speed of how life has changed is something none of us ever prepared for or knew anything about.

Life is changing, it has changed, and it won’t ever be the same again.

For some that is scary for others it might be exciting. Either way we all need to adapt as it won’t be going back to 2019 and how we lived life then.

The only constant is change. “Change is inevitable, personal growth is a choice.“ I’m not sure who coined that phrase but I believe it is true that we all have a personal choice in life.

We have been given the power of free will, we can choose to grow and place ourselves in a healthy environment that supports that growth and the growth of others, or we choose not to.

Again it is a choice.I didn’t choose to have my business closed I hear you say and either did I as a business owner but we still choose how to respond at all times in my opinion. We always have that choice.

Right now we have had possibly the biggest paradigm change of the century. Our habitual way of life and our belief systems about certain things in life have been altered due to Covid-19.

However, we must adapt because if we don’t, we get stuck in the past hoping for things to be the way they once were and that isn’t going to happen no matter how much we might want it to be how it was.

So right now I would encourage you to maybe look around at your own environment.

Who is influencing you and how is that impacting on your thoughts and behaviours and ultimately your results in life?

We can alter and change our external environment at anytime and we can also do the same for our internal environment by educating ourselves, reading the right kinds of books, staying away from negative information that doesn’t help you feel empowered and able to handle all that life may throw at us.

To quote James Clear; “Environment is the invisible hand that shapes human behaviour.”

Ask yourself, how is you environment shaping you?
