Thirty COVID-19 related deaths in Derry and Strabane

There were thirty COVID-19 related deaths in Derry and Strabane in the calendar year to the end of last week, according to the latest figures published on Friday by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA).

In the week to Friday, October 9, there were 11 deaths mentioning coronavirus on the death certificate across the north accounting for 3.2% of all deaths in that week and bringing the total number of Covid-19 related deaths registered in the calendar year 2020 to 913.

According to NISRA's weekly bulletin: "In the calendar year to October 9, males and females accounted for similar proportions of all deaths registered (males: 49.4%, females: 50.6%) and Covid-19 related deaths registered (males: 50.9%; female: 49.1%).

"In the calendar year to October 9, the 75 years and over age-group accounted for two-thirds (64.6%) of all deaths and four-fifths (79.0%) of Covid-19 related deaths.

"For Covid-19 related deaths, those with an address in Belfast LGD accounted for 258 (28.3%) of the 913 deaths registered in the calendar year to October 9."

The NISRA data refers to all deaths up to last Friday and uses different criteria to the Department of Health's daily dashboard.

According to the DoH figures 25 people had died with COVID-19 in Derry and Strabane up until Thursday.
