Three more Altnagelvin COVID-19 admissions but Derry hospital has more spare capacity than coronavirus occupied beds

Three people were admitted to Altnagelvin with coronavirus over the weekend but the hospital still has more capacity left than beds occupied by COVID-19 patients.

At midnight on Sunday 20 people were being treated as coronavirus inpatients across all Western Trust hospitals.

Three women were admitted to Altnagelvin with COVID-19 over the weekend.

One woman, in her 40s, was admitted on Friday, and two women, one in her 40s and one aged over 80, were admitted on Saturday.

Three of 10 (30%) ICU beds at Altnagelvin were being used to treat COVID-19 patients; three (30%) were occupied by patients with other conditions and four (40%) were free.

Five ICU patients in total were being ventilated - two were COVID-19 patients and three were non-COVID-19 patients.

In terms of general occupancy 3.36% of beds at Altnagelvin were ‘COVID-19 occupied’, 88.38% were ‘other occupied’ and there was 3.67 capacity left in the hospital system; 4.59% were ‘awaiting admission.’

There have been no further deaths.
