Western Trust COVID-19 inpatients at lowest level since October 15

The number of coronavirus patients being treated in Western Trust hospitals at midnight on Sunday was as low as it has been since October 15.

Three more people were admitted to Altnagelvin over the weekend. A woman aged 20 to 39 was admitted to the hospital on Friday. A woman aged 50 to 59 and man aged over 80 were admitted on Saturday.

At midnight on Sunday 66 patients were being treated as COVID-19 inpatients across all Western Trust hospitals. The last time it was lower was on October 15 (64).

Four of 16 (25%) ICU beds at Altnagelvin were being used to treat COVID-19 patients; six (37.75%) were occupied by patients with other conditions and six (37.75%) were free, according to Department of Health figures released this afternoon.

Seven ICU patients in total were being ventilated - four were COVID-19 patients and three were non-COVID-19 patients.

In terms of general occupancy 10.53% of beds at Altnagelvin were ‘COVID-19 occupied’, 78.67% were ‘other occupied’ and there was 3.32% capacity left in the hospital system: 7.48% were ‘awaiting admission.’
