Western Trust working ‘intensively’ with other health bodies on dealing with Coronavirus as visitor restrictions continue

The Western Health and Social Care Trust has said it is continuing to work along with the Department of Health, Public Health Agency (PHA) and Health and Social Care Board (HSCB) “collectively and intensively on dealing with Coronavirus”.

The Trust plans involve identifying wards and units, and prioritising care for the sickest patients.

The Western Trust, the Public Health Agency and other health bodies have refused to comment on unconfirmed reports of coronavirus cases in the north west, citing patient confidentiality.

A spokesperson for the Western Trust however said: “The Trust has identified the ward areas that will be utilised if a number of people need to be admitted because of Coronavirus.

“This is vital in ensuring that those patients can be appropriately treated. It will also protect other vulnerable hospital patients from the risk of infection.

“All Trusts have in place robust arrangements to test for Coronavirus. Detailed attention is being given to ensure staff safety and welfare issues are fully addressed.

“At this stage, the focus remains on containment, with all efforts being made to avoid the spread of infection between people.”

The Western Trust said they were taking “necessary precautions to protect our patients and staff from COVID-19 (Coronavirus)”.

As such they have asked that people do not visit hospitals or its community based facilities if they do not have to.

A spokesperson said: “We are asking the public not to visit patients in our hospitals and community facilities unless absolutely essential.

“In relation to outpatient appointments, we would ask where possible, that you attend your appointment on your own.
