‘Balmacara’ contents to go under the hammer in house clearance auction

The contents of ‘Balmacara’ - a house once owned by Albert Anderson, an ex-Mayor of Derry who served in the old Stormont government in the 1970s - are to be auctioned this week.

McAfee Auctions will oversee the house clearance at 6 Deanfield, with viewing on Wednesday, from 11–1 p.m., 2–5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., and on Thursday, the day of the sale from 11-1 p.m. and 2-5 p.m.

Among the furniture is an inlaid davenport, envelope top card table, turn over leaf table, tea table, revolving bookcase, three door bookcase, glazed display cabinet, hall and side tables, pieces of pine, upright piano, dining room table and chair sets and a three piece berger suite.

Among the collectibles are pieces of worcester, ruby, belleek, oil lamp, canteens of cutlery, large pair of bronze stags, doultons, noritake, teasets, dux figurine, silver plate etc.

Clocks including a longcase clock, American drop dial clock and mantle clock and paintings including works by S.Brown, J. S Hagan, Patricia Duncan, S. Y Johnston, Harry Coates, Georgina Lord, Samuel Joseph Clark, Victor McCurry, Tom McGoldrick and a photogravure by J.W Waterhouse are among the lots. A set of eight spy legal prints are also available. There is a nice collection of silver including a three piece tea service, silver bowls, candlesticks, cigarette boxes and cases, sugar shaker, flatware, vases, vesta, snuff boxes etc (approx. 100 lots).

Other lots include table lamps, 3 piece stag bedroom suite, early toys, annuals, books, coins, stick barometer, laura Ashley settee, jardineres, brass etc.
