Professor Diarmaid Ferriter to explore Irish border's legacy as part of 'Dividing Ireland' exhibition

Acclaimed historian Diarmaid Ferriter will discuss the legacy of partition over the past 100 years when he takes part in an online discussion this Thursday, October 8 at 7pm.

In partnership with the Nerve Centre, 'The legacy of the Irish border' discussion is part of the programme of events for the Tower Museum's exhibition 'Dividing Ireland – The Origins, Impact and Legacy of Partition'.

The event is part of the Understanding the Decade of Commemorations programme, supported by the European Union’s PEACE IV Programme. Managed by the Special EU Programme Body (SEUPB).

The Professor of Modern Irish History at UCD will be interviewed by author Garret Carr in the online webinar which will be hosted on zoom with participants invited to submit their questions in advance using the hashtag #DividingIreland.

"Events at home and around Europe from 1912 to 1922 oversaw monumental changes to the political and social structures to the island of Ireland," explained Bernadette Walsh, Archivist at the Tower Museum.

"Dividing Ireland explores some of those events through objects and documents in the Tower's collection.

"Professor Ferriter will examine the impact of the border on Irish life and history as we approach the centenary of partition next year."
