Christian ROCKS concert in Derry

A special concert featuring the music of local band I Am will take place in St Columb's Hall on Sunday night.

The ‘I AM Alive’ Christian ROCKS concert begins at 8 p.m. and is open to everyone in the city, especially young people.

For band members Marie Theresa Martin and Joe Carlin the whole event is about bringing people together in an inclusive way, regardless of their religion.

“I’ve always dreamed of going a concert like this,” Marie Therese told the Journal. “To us St Columb’s Hall seemed like the perfect venue.”

Many of the members of the band were former members of the Carnhill Folk group. For Marie Theresa the concert and the music they will be singing is another form of prayer.

“Young people sometimes feel bored at Mass,” she said. “Music like this is not as restrictive, there is more freedom to move dance, sing and rock it out to Jesus.”

She said that hopes the young and the not so young come along on Sunday to see what the band and their music are all about.

“I want the older people in the city to see the younger people in action,” said Marie Therese.

‘I Am’ are a 14 piece band made up of some of city’s most talented and established musicians and performers.

Sunday night’s performance will be their debut concert.

The overall aim is to bring both sides of the river together in song and prayer, regardless of religious backgrounds and to create peace and healing in hearts.

This night of worship was inspired by Hillsong United, Robin Mark and Phil Wickham featuring songs such as ‘Days of Elijah’ Oceans’, ‘Relentless’ and ‘This is Amazing Grace’.

The event is open to all.

Tickets priced at £10 and £7 are available from Veritas. You can watch a video of the band online at derryjournal.com
