Christian walk of witness to take place on Good Friday

Leaders of the four main Christian churches in Derry will lead a cross-community '˜Walk of Witness' through the city centre on Good Friday to commemorate Christ's crucifixion and death at Golgotha.

The event presents an opportunity for participants to present a united Christian Witness.

The ‘Walk of Witness’ will begin at 12.00 noon on Good Friday at St Columb’s Hall. It will proceed to Guildhall Square, passing through the Richmond Centre (which has kindly agreed to facilitate the event) and down Shipquay Street.

The event will include readings from Scripture and hymn-singing, and all are welcome.

At St Eugene’s Cathedral on Good Friday at 7.30 pm there will be the celebration of the Passion.

This will be followed at 9 p.m. with live stations of the cross where young people will lead the stations.

St Eugene’s Cathedral will hold their Easter vigil on Saturday night at 9 p.m.

Easter vigil Masses will take place in St Patrick’s Pennyburn and St Brigid’s Church on Saturday night at 6 p.m. A vigil Mass will take place in St Joseph’s Galliagh at 7 p.m.

Parishioners are reminded that the Trocaire boxes that they have had in their houses during Lent can be returned at Holy Week services.
