St Johnston community supports Maggie’s Tavern Santa Tractor Run for The Alzheimer Society of Ireland
The local community of Carrickmore, St Johnston, Co. Donegal came together recently for a festive tractor run in aid of The Alzheimer Society of Ireland.
The fundraiser was organised by Alice Lynch, owner of Maggie’s Tavern, who was inspired by local residents, Alfie Lynch and his wife Maureen, who took part in many tractor runs in aid of charity over the past 30 years.
Alfie’s family, Pearl Bradley and John Vance generously donated spot prizes to the fundraiser, while Maggie’s Tavern hosted an auction to boost fundraising efforts.
The event was full of festive cheer with Santa making a special appearance. Participants were treated to a hearty bowl of stew from Maggie’s Tavern at the halfway point to keep spirits high and welcomed back for refreshments after the tractor run.

Alice Lynch, Owner of Maggies’s Tavern said: “Alfie Vance and his wife Maureen always took part and supported the tractor runs in the last 30 years for numerous charities. The Alzheimer Society of Ireland was chosen this year to remember and honour loved ones who are never forgotten from the local community. We are delighted with the overwhelming amount of support.”
Thanks to the incredible turnout, €5077.05 was raised for The Alzheimer Society of Ireland. The funds will directly support local services for people living with dementia and their carers in Donegal, making a real difference where it matters most.
The cheque presentation took place at Maggie’s Tavern, where it was presented to Jennifer Carr, Support Services Coordinator, The Alzheimer Society of Ireland.
Jennifer Carr, Support Services Coordinator, The Alzheimer Society of Ireland said: “We are so grateful to Alice, Maggie’s Tavern and the entire Carrickmore community for choosing to support The Alzheimer Society of Ireland with this wonderful fundraiser.
