Derry/Strabane among top ‘trick-or-treating’ spots Google foot traffic data show

Derry and Strabane does some of the most ‘trick-or-treating’ in the UK, according to research by online sweet shop Picky Mixers.

They aimed to discover how popular ‘trick-or-treating’ is across the UK, by looking at the average increase of foot traffic on October 31.

Google Foot Traffic Data showed that Derry and Strabane has an average 11 per cent spike in foot traffic on Hallowe’en.

This is matched in the North only by Ards and North Down, and Lisburn and Castlereagh, which also each saw increases of foot traffic of 11 per cent.

Together, they rank joint 19th across the whole of the UK. The top ranked area in the UK was Cardiff, which saw a 16 per cent increase, which was more than double the UK average.

Across the North there was an average spike of 9.72 per cent. This was second only to Wales which saw an increase of 10.8 per cent.

Elsewhere, Scotland saw an increase of 6.96 per cent, and England an increase of 6.89 per cent.

The UK overall saw an average 7 per cent increase on Hallowe’en.
