Recently, Destined suffered an arson attack at it new premises on Foyle Road which destroyed its kitchen, but the principal of Long Tower Primary School, Mrs Joyce Logue offered the group the use of the schools kitchen to cook hot meals daily to be delivered to people’s homes.

The group is reacting to its members - many who have been in self isolation for nearly two weeks, and due to a lack of cooking skills are resorting to ordering takeaway’s each day.

The order line is 07902 379 296 to book your meals.

Charlene Keenan, Destined general manager, said prior to the launch, “We have identified a need for our members who are self-isolating at home but who weren’t eating healthy food.

“Many don’t have the skills to prepare and cook a nutritious meal so we said that we would cook a meal each day for them. They will have a choice of two meals each day and people can forward book from the menu.”

She continued, “We have decided to prioritise people with all disabilities, not just from the learning disability community, older people, particularly those living on their own and also families living in poverty.”

Charlene added that the service will run seven days a week and meals will be delivered by Derry Taxis, which is Destined’s social enterprise.

Meals will cost a nominal £2 and delivery is free.
