The event, ‘Food & Folksong: A Worldwide Irish Legacy’ will take place in Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin on Thursday, 4th February.

McCourt will present a series of gourmet canapés that are firmly rooted in Irish culture and heritage, exploring foods that the Irish diaspora have taken with them across the world. Dishes will be inspired by countries on both sides of the Atlantic, using an array of locally sourced ingredients.

Included in the line-up of performers will be Donegal trio The Henry Girls. The Henry Girls are an Irish folk and roots music group consisting of three sisters: Karen, Lorna and Joleen McLaughlin. All three have studied music and are multi-instrumentalists and their sound has been described as a mix of traditional Irish folk music and Americana. They have contributed backup vocals to Mary Black’s album ‘Stories from the Steeples’. They have also collaborated with Dónal Lunny and Moya Brennan.

All-Ireland Singing Champion Mary Dillon, Dublin-based troubadours Alan Burke and Daoirí Farrell, as well as Gaelic singers Kathleen MacInnes and Kate Crossan will also be performing.

Artists will perform specially chosen folk songs, which explore the impact of Irish culture across the globe, including themes of emigration and longing for home, and these will be interspersed by McCourt’s innovative taster dishes.

Local company, Northbound Brewery, will offer tasters of their craft beer, and a range of local suppliers have given their support to the event, including William Grant & Co., Broighter Gold, and Donnybrewer Butter. Tickets for Food & Folksong: A Worldwide Irish Legacy are £10.00, available from the Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin box office (02871 264 132) or online at www.culturlann-doire.ie.
