Colr. Dobbins said: “I have been asking for the installation of a Christmas tree and lighting for several years and thanks to a kind donor and Centra Culmore supplying the electricity I managed to get one last year. I am delighted that my request has been successful and Derry City and Strabane District Council now have Culmore included on the annual supply list.

“Rural areas are often forgotten about because they are on the outskirts of the city. Culmore is one of the main arterial routes from Inishowen and I am delighted to have received confirmation that not only have we received a tree this year but that the Culmore Rd lampposts will be adorned with Christmas lighting.”

Work is to start soon and it is hoped that this will be completed in the next fortnight. “If all goes well our lights will be up and lit for Christmas this year, but due to time constraints this may not happen but we will enjoy them from next year on,” she said, adding:

“I wish to thank Dept. for Communities and Council for their cooperation and I know this will bring a bit of festive cheer for all to enjoy, especially during this pandemic. Culmore Community Partnership are also celebrating their first Christmas at the recently opened community hub in the former Victoria Hall.

“Santa and his helpers will be travelling through Culmore on Saturday and Sunday from 4pm. For more information visit Culmore Community Partnership on Facebook and see notices in local shops.

“We all have to be careful and stay safe, and Santa has asked that you stay at your door or in your garden as he passes.”
