While many shops and services will be open for a few days yet, the latest restrictions in the north mean for most traders they will be reliant on people shopping online in the fortnight ahead.

With Christmas fast approaching, the decision taken by the Executive to have a fortnight circuit breaker from Friday, November 27, will result in businesses and independent traders loosing out on their busiest period of the year.

Now more than ever they need our support, and now more than ever many are trading online, offering a wide range of quality goods and gifts delivered to your door.

Here at the Journal we are publishing updated lists, free of ads, on our website at www.derryjournal.com/business/consumer to help you navigate how you can pick up supplies and goods from some of your favourite local outlets until we are all able to visit again in person.

We have done this to add to the many local initiatives across Derry, Donegal and Tyrone which have been set up online by people and groups to help promote local traders following what has been a very tough year.

Outlets deemed essential such as grocery shops, food retailers and takeaways, as well as local chemists, will still be open for the next two weeks with a raft of safety measures in place, but for just about everyone else, this will be the only way they can connect with customers.

So let’s give them our support as they prepare to pull the shutters once again and hopefully an improving picture will see us all able to enjoy some semblance of normality in the weeks before Christmas.
