The new ‘Foyle Legends’ campaign will honour local heroes who have excelled in their industry and shine a spotlight on the wealth of talent which Derry has produced. As it travels across the city, the Foyle Legends bus will pay tribute to two of these inspirational individuals as voted for by the public.

The bus will be the second in Translink’s Legends series and follows the success of the Metro Legends bus unveiled in Belfast last year, which saw the public vote for rugby star Rory Best and actor Jamie Dornan.

Encouraging everyone who is proud of their city to nominate, Alan Young, Service Delivery Manager, Ulsterbus Foyle said:

“Derry is home to some of the most talented men and women in Northern Ireland, and indeed the world. Ulsterbus has proudly connected people in this area for generations and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate top local talent than this unique Foyle Legends Double Decker.

“As it travels across the city, the bus will pay tribute to these inspirational individuals and remind us of the incredible wealth of local talent. Perhaps it’s a sporting hero, an acclaimed actor or a musical genius – if they inspire you, we want to hear about it! Simply visit www.translink.co.uk/foylelegends/ to make your nomination.”

Judging panel chair Deirdre Heenan, Professor of Social Policy and Political Commentator at Ulster University said:

“Foyle Legends is an exciting opportunity for the people of Derry to celebrate two local people who have touched our hearts and minds. I would encourage absolutely everyone to get involved! If someone has inspired you or generally shone the spotlight on this city for all the right reasons, nominate them today!”

Nominations are now open and will close on March 19. Following this, a panel of judges will have the unenviable task of creating a shortlist for the final public vote. Then it’s back over to the people of Derry to have their say before the big Foyle Legends Official Reveal during Bus and Train Week on Monday June 5.
