Sixty dead and diseased poplar trees overhanging one of the main entrance paths to the Bay Road Park Local Nature Reserve are to be removed prior to the commencement of the bird nesting season.

The decision to remove the small trees - young to young mature plants - was taken after an inspection by Derry City & Strabane District Council’s tree and woodland officer.

A follow-up inspection of the remaining trees will be conducted in the summer.
