From the archive: Biggest ever arms and explosive find at Lagg - January 1988
The arms and explosives, all in good condition and wrapped in cellophane, were in two large oil drums, which had been sunk horizontally into sand dunes on the secluded Inishowen beach.
No arrests have been made in connection with the find, described by local Garda Superintendent Eugen O’Shea as “most significant,” but a man believed to be from Derry was yesterday being questioned by Gardaí in Buncrana under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act. It is understood the beach was searched following reports that a van was seen on the shore on Tuesday.
