Belgium drug seizure: Man due before Derry court

A man is expected to appear before Derry Magisatrate's Court this morning charged with a number of drug offences in connection with the seizure of £66,000 worth of herbal cannabis in Belgium.

Detectives from the PSNI’s Reactive and Organised Crime Branch have charged the 40-year-old man with a number of drug offences, including attempting to import Class B drugs and attempting to possess Class B controlled drugs with intent to supply.

As is normal the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

It is understood the charges relate to the seize of £66,000 worth of herbal cannabis by National Crimne Agency Officer in Belgium on March 15 this year, and a follow-up investigation by the PSNI’s Reactive and Organised Crime Branch.

A report will now also be submitted to the Public Prosecution Service in relation to a number of other offences, including importation, possession and possession with intent to supply class B drugs between April 23, 2015 and March 2, 2016.
