Brandywell to get new play park
Planning permission for the construction of the new play park was unanimously approved at meeting of the Derry City and Strabane District Council (D.C.S.D.C.) Planning Committee in the Guildhall on Wednesday.
Sinn Fein Councillor, Patricia Logue, welcomed the news but said she would like to see traffic calming measures close to the park.

“However, I will be asking TransportNI to look at the possibility of installing pedestrian crossings and traffic calming measures so that people can access the park safely.”
The new park will be split into three zones: childrens’ zone; younger childrens’ zone and landscaped nature zone.
There will also be a small car park with room for four vehicles and cycle parking.

Environmental Health assessed land contamination at the site and discovered elevated levels of lead and arsenic.
D.C.S.D.C. has submitted a contamination remediation strategy to deal with these matters.
The Northern Ireland Environmental Agency (N.I.E.A.) Land, Soil, and Air have not objected to the construction of the new play park on the condition that if any new contamination or risks are identified during the construction period then works should cease immediately.
