The lane closure on Buncrana Road has caused significant traffic congestion on Racecourse Road.

The congestion is a result of the closure of the city bound lane from the bottom of Racecourse Road to Pennyburn Roundabout.

The section of road will be closed each day during off-peak times from Monday to Friday from 9:30a.m. to 3:30p.m. to allow for work to be carried out on street lights. It is expected that the work to the street lights will be completed by Friday June 3.

TransportNI will then close one lane of traffic on the same stretch of road for eights weeks starting on June 27. The closure is to allow for re-surfacing work to be carried out.

“TransportNI plan to resurface a section of the Buncrana Road from Pennyburn Roundabout to the Racecourse Road junction. Work is expected to begin on Monday June 27 and last for around eight weeks,” said a TransportNI spokesperson.

“Advance works involving the renewal of the street lights will begin on Monday May 23 and traffic management will involve a lane closure. A diversion will be in place Monday to Friday from 9:30a.m. to 3:30p.m.

“Buncrana Road city bound traffic will be diverted onto the Racecourse Road. Traffic travelling from Pennyburn Roundabout will, as normal, be able to enter the Buncrana Road and travel towards the Racecourse Road junction. A letter drop explaining the detail of traffic management has been made to all properties in the vicinity of the works,” added the spokesperson.

“TransportNI has planned the works operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience to the public. However, drivers should expect delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the area.”
