Call out to McKenna clans in North West

People with the surname McKenna across Counties Derry and Donegal have been advised that their Clan International Gathering will take place in Monaghan on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 April, 2016.

Commencing on the Friday evening at 7.30pm in the Four Season Hotel, Monaghan – the base for the weekend - there will be an inauguration ceremony when the current Clan Chieftain, Marie Curley of Ardaghy, Monaghan will pass the role to the incoming Chieftain, Jerry McKenna from Texas, USA. This will be followed by a buffet and entertainment.

On Saturday 23rd from the Four Seasons Hotel the clan will undertake the McKenna Trail of North Monaghan taking in McKenna places of interest such as Liskenna Fort, Errigal Truagh Old Graveyard, the grave of the ancestors of General Don Juan McKenna, military officer and hero of the Chilean War of Independence amongst others. This will be followed by lunch and a talk by an historian.

On Saturday night a buffet and musical entertainment is being held in Ardaghy Community Centre, hosted by the outgoing Chieftain, Marie Curley.

The incoming Clan Chieftain, Jerry McKenna – the first international chieftain - a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and formerly an officer of the US Air Force is a world renowned sculptor based in Boerne, Texas.

McKenna comes from the Gaelic Irish surname Mac Cionaoith, meaning son of Cionnaith.
