Call for Women's Aid funding

Additional central government for refuge facilities for domestic violence victims could help push a major Foyle Women's Aid project over the line, SDLP leader Colum Eastwood has said.

The Foyle MLA has now called for the Executive to use the opportunity to fund the One Safe Place project developed by Foyle Women’s Aid. His call comes after British Communities Secretary Sajid Javid allocated an extra £20m for women’s refuges.

He said: “This facility is badly needed. Foyle Women’s Aid have already secured commitments from various bodies. This new money could finally bring this project over the line.

“Marie Brown and Foyle Women’s Aid have spent years diligently working on this proposal. This new project will ensure that this vital service continues and expands into the future.”
