Cash and jewellery snatched in Greysteel and Dungiven burglaries

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Detectives are investigating two burglaries in the Mitchell Park area of Dungiven on Saturday night, 30 January.

“It was reported that sometime between 5.30pm and 8.15pm entry was forced to a house in the area. A quantity of cash and items of jewellery were stolen as a result. Entry was also forced to a neighbouring property sometime during the evening. It is not believed that anything was stolen in this incident.”

Sinn Fein MLA Cathal O’hOisin said: “I have lived in Mitchell Park all my life and I can never remember a crime being committed, let alone to have two break-ins in the one evening. During the worst of The Troubles, people routinely left their keys in their front doors and nothing ever went missing. I would also be concerned for the welfare of those whose homes were targeted, and I appeal for anyone who knows anything about the burglary to come forward.”

Police are also investigating two burglaries in the St Annes Gardens area of Greysteel, also on Saturday night, 30 January.

“It was reported that sometime between 5pm and 9pm entry was gained to a house in the area and a sum of cash was stolen as a result. Entry was also gained to a neighbouring property sometime overnight on Saturday night and a quantity of jewellery and a sum of cash was stolen.

“Anyone with any information about these incidents is asked to contact Detectives in Coleraine on the non-emergency number 101.
