Coronavirus: 114 cases (2%) of COVID-19 in Donegal as Irish death toll rises to 283

One hundred and fourteen cases (2%) of COVID-19 confirmed in the south by midnight on Sunday were in Donegal, the National Public Health Emergency Team have confirmed.

As of Tuesday there have now been 6964 confirmed cases in Ireland - 5709 in the south and 1255 in the north.

Two hundred and eighty-three people have now died from the illness in Ireland - 210 in the south and 73 in the north.

The latest data for Donegal released tonight but referring only to cases that had been analysed up until midnight on Sunday show there have now been 114 cases in the county (2% of all cases in the 26 counties).

Today’s data from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre, reveal that as of midnight, Sunday, April 5, 2020, (5,593 cases), reveals: 46% are male and 53% are female, with 270 clusters involving 1103 cases.

The median age of confirmed cases is 48 years and 1,345 cases (26%) have been hospitalised.

Of those hospitalised, 194 cases have been admitted to ICU.

And 1388 cases (24.8%) are associated with healthcare workers.

In Donegal there were 114 confirmed cases (2%), a rise of 11 from 103 on Saturday.

Dublin has the highest number of cases at 3061 (55% of all cases) followed by Cork with 421 cases (8%)

Of those for whom transmission status is known: community transmission accounts for 67%, close contact accounts for 22%, and travel abroad accounts for 11%.
