Man found with drugs in shed sentenced at Derry court

A man has been given a suspended sentence at Derry Magistrate's Court after he appeared charged with resisting police and possession of Class B drugs.

Christopher Holden (35) of Drumleck Drive in Derry was arrested after police received a report of a man shouting and screaming while trying to enter a property.

Police arrived and the court heard that they found Holden in a shed, suspecting that he was under the influence, and upon searching found a small amount of Class B drugs.

He was subsequently taken to hospital and arrested for resisting police.

During the hearing before the Magistrate’s Court in Derry on Friday, Defence Barrister Stephen Chapman said that there had been a 'significant gap' since Holden's last offence.

The judge also said that any sentence apart from community service would be suitable.

Holden was subsequently sentenced to two months in custody, and this was suspended for 18 months.
