Man who headbutted and elbowed police on Derry’s Peace Bridge jailed
A man has been jailed at Derry Magistrates’ Court for two assaults on police who were trying to help him.
Conor Dean (35) of no fixed abode admitted carrying out two assaults on police officers on October 15.
Derry Magistrates’ Court was told that police were tasked to a concern for safety report about a male on the Peace Bridge in the city centre on Thursday.
They found Dean lying on the bridge with blood coming from his head and mouth, the court heard.
Police spoke to him and he became aggressive and had to be handcuffed.
Dean headbutted one officer and elbowed another, Derry Magistrates’ Court was told on Friday.
Defence counsel Michael Donaghy told the court that this was 'disgraceful behaviour' and added that his client wished to apologise.
He said alcohol was a factor in the offences.
Dean was sentenced to a total of 12 weeks in custody.
