The security alert at Craigavon Bridge resulted in the key artery being closed in both directions for a period last night and this morning.
Police and British Army Ammunition Technichal Officers (ATO) examined a suspicious object and have declared it an elaborate hoax.
The object has been taken away for further examination and the bridge is now re-opened.
