During a brief hearing at the local Magistrate’s Court, O’Brien confirmed he was aware of the charges against him.

He declined to say anything in answer to them or to call any evidence on his own behalf.

Defence solicitor Leonie Keegan accepted there was a case for her client to answer.

The 55-year-old was released on bail to appear at the Crown Court on February 9.
