Derry Magistrate’s Court heard that Dillon had been in prison serving a sentence, but was released early under a Covid scheme.

His mother rang police last week to report that he had breached the conditions of this scheme by consuming drugs. There were no conditions on his release and police took no further action.

An hour later police received a further report that Dillon had allegedly threatened to slit his mother’s throat.

The 23-year-old was arrested and was allegedly in possession of a quantity of diazepam tablets.

Following his arrest, Dillon was also questioned about the burglary offences.

It is alleged he entered the garage of a property in the Springvale Park area of the city and stole a set of golf clubs worth £500, replacing them with a set of tools.

The court heard allegations that the defendant is captured on CCTV and was told that a taxi driver would also be able to give evidence.

Bail was opposed for fear of further offences.

Deputy District Judge Stephen Keown granted bail subject to a number of conditions and Dillon will appear in court again on May 21.
