Anthony McCoy ripped and spray painted furniture in his ex-girlfriend’s house, cut through the wires of electrical items and ‘slashed’ pictures. He also mixed hot pepper sauce in her make-up, burned one shoe of each of the 35 pairs the woman owned and burned her clothes.

Derry Magistrate’s Court heard he also left water running, turned the heating up and turned the freezer off so food was spoiled.

McCoy, with an address in Carshalton, Surrey, was convicted of criminal damage and theft of a laptop in June 2014.

The 34-year-old was convicted in his absence in August last year after he failed to attend court and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

During that hearing, video messages McCoy sent to his ex were played.

In the first of these he claims he slept with the woman’s best friend and tells her he had burnt her shoes and clothes.

He also called his ex ‘stupid and fat’ and said ‘I f****** hate you’.

Defence solicitor Michael McGee said his client ‘lashed out at the injured party’ after their six year relationship ended.

He said this was out of character for the 34-year-old, who wished to apologise for his behaviour and was willing to pay compensation.

Suspending an eight month sentence for three years, District Judge Barney McElholm said these were ‘nasty and disgraceful offences’.

He also ordered the defendant to pay £6,000 compensation.
