Driver could have been 'seriously hurt' when object cracked windscreen in Derry

It's fortunate the driver of a Derry City & Strabane District Council work van was not hurt after a brick cracked the windscreen of the vehicle.

Thus said Ulster Unionist, Alderman Darren Guy after the incident on Thursday.

Ald. Guy said he was angered to hear of the attack on the Madam's Bank Road.

He said: "Whilst staff began their Thursday shift, youths recklessly threw a brick towards the van as it passed by, the brick cracked the windscreen on the drivers side.

"On this occasion staff were left shaken but it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt as a result of mindless thugs throwing stones in the area.

"Taxi drivers have had their vehicles damaged around the same area in the past.

"The PSNI said that stone throwing incidents had been reported in the area from 4 a.m. The windscreen of the Council van was damaged around 7 a.m."
