The arrests were made in the Drumahoe and Eglinton areas on Wednesday during routine lockdown patrols as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Yesterday Waterside Neighbourhood Policing Team were conducting patrols and checks in the Eglinton area when we noticed a male acting suspiciously. He was stopped and a large quantity of drugs were located.

“Our enquiries led us to conduct a search of his property and another in the area. A further male was subsequently arrested, a number of further items have been seized and the males are assisting us with our enquiries.

“Later that evening, we were again out in the Drumahoe area conducting checks when we stopped a vehicle which had travelled a long way to our area. “Following a search of the vehicle and driver, a large quantity of drugs were recovered. The driver was arrested and remains in custody.”

The PSNI said that it will continue to conduct operations while patrolling the largely deserted streets of the city and district.

“Officers across our district will continue to patrol to keep everyone safe, in whatever form it takes.

“We want to once again thank the vast majority of our communities for staying at home and staying safe,” the spokesperson said.
