‘Educate your youngsters’ say Derry police after ‘rock’ hurled at car

Parents have been urged to educate their children after a large object was hurled at a car.

The missile - believed to have been a rock or brick - damaged the bonnet of the car upon impact in Ballyarnett last Thursday. Police said it was lucky no-one was hurt.

“Ballyarnett Neighbourhood Policing Team are dealing with an incident of criminal damage where a member of the public was driving along the old Racecourse Road towards the Skeoge Road when her car bonnet was hit by a large item - likely a brick or rock,” said police.

“Obviously the damage is infuriating but more significant to the victim is the fear of it happening again and the fear of what might have happened; say if the brick had gone through her window.

“This is likely children playing ‘pranks’; ensure that you educate your youngsters that this behaviour is not remotely funny and could result in someone receiving serious injuries or worse,” they added.
