Gardai launchnew safety camera zones

New safety camera zones came into operation yesterday across the south, with quite a number of new routes added across Donegal.

In launching the new areas, An Garda Siochana said that the safety cameras operate in areas where there is a history of speed related collisions, known as speed enforcement zones, using a fleet of marked vehicles.

The range of equipment used include handheld and tripod mounted laser guns; vehicle mounted Puma speed detection equipment, (both marked and unmarked vehicles.

They also include van mounted automatic speed detection radars (Garda operated) and van mounted Go-Safe vans, which are civilian operated.

The new areas added in Inishowen are: Cockhill road to Shandrum; Bree, Malin Head to Urblereagh; Leirtim to Bohillion Lower (Burt); Tromaty, Quigley’s Point to Whitecastle; St Oran’s Road, Buncrana to Upper Main Street; Malin Road, Carndonagh to Drumaville; Gort Glebe, Carndonagh to Station Road; Annaugh to Straths, Carrownamaddy, Burt to Lisfannan, Burt; Carroghill Drumfries, over the Mountain road (past Mintiagh’s Lough); Drumaville to Drumcarbit, Malin and Railway Road to Lisfannon.

All zones are available on the Garda website and available for GPS Navigation providers such as Garmin, TomTom, Google Maps or Waze to download and there is also an interactive map, showing new and current zones on www.garda.ie, as well as a list of routes.
