Gunmen branded 'wasters' spreading fear and pressurising health workers

Those responsible for shooting a man in Creggan on Friday have been branded 'wasters' who are spreading fear in their own community and heaping unnecessary pressure on the local health service.

UUP Alderman Guy condemned what was the second paramilitary style shooting in two days in Creggan.

“We have witnessed another savage attack in Creggan. The second in as many days.

"These wasters who feel they have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner do nothing but spread fear amongst their own communities," he said.

Police confirmed a man had been taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that are not life-threatening after being shot in Creggan Heights.

A man in his 30s was shot in the Southway area on Wednesday.

"In a week that our health service is under severe pressure, our health service workers once again are pushing themselves to their limits and as COVID admissions continue to rise in our hospitals, there are those in society who see these barbaric acts as acceptable - they are not and they never will," said Alderman Guy.
