Man accused of possessing hatchet remanded in custody

A 40-year-old man has appeared in court accused of possessing a hatchet with intent.

David Duff, of Claremont House, is further charged with causing damage to two doors, an intercom and a wall at his property on April 30.

He is also accused of assaulting police.

Duff appeared at a special sitting of Derry Magistrate’s Court at the weekend.

An investigating officer told the court he believed he could connect the defendant to the charges.

Defence solicitor Maeliosa Barr said his client was unable to apply for bail as his address had been withdrawn. He applied for a short adjournment for an alternative address to be found.

Duff was remanded in custody until May 14.
