Man treated in hospital after being kicked in face by sectarian hate gang in Derry

A man was treated in hospital after being kicked in the face, chest and body by a gang in what police are treating as a sectarian hate crime in Derry.

Detectives are appealing for information after the assault in the Tullyally area.

It occurred last Sunday, August 9, but details are only now been revealed.

Detective Inspector Burns said: “Sometime between midnight and 1am, it was reported that a man in his 30s was walking on the Ardmore Road area when he was assaulted by a group of men. The male was believed to have been kicked in the face, chest and body as he lay on the ground. He was taken to hospital for his injuries following the incident.

“Enquiries are continuing and at this stage, police are treating the incident as a sectarian motivated hate crime.

“We would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident who witnessed the assault, or who may have dash-cam footage available to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference number 1380 09/08/20.
