NI hit and run death: Black BMW X5 recovered in Co. Donegal transported to Northern Ireland for forensic examination

A vehicle believed to have been involved in a fatal hit and run incident in Northern Ireland at the weekend has been recovered.

A 21 year-old motorcyclist was killed in the hit-and-run collision on Meenacloy Road, Co. Tyrone on Sunday.

The PSNI issued an appeal for the driver of a BMW X5 believed to have been involved in the collision to come forward on Monday.

A black BMW X5 was discovered at an address in Co. Donegal and with the PSNI working together with Gardai, the vehicle was transported to a PSNI facility in Northern Ireland for a forensic investigation.

PSNI Detective Inspector Michael Winters who is leading the investigation into details surrounding the death of the 21 year-old man thanked his Republic of Ireland counterparts for assisting the PSNI.

“I would like to thank all those who have responded to my appeal for information following this tragic incident.

Working with our colleagues in An Garda Síochána we have now recovered a black BMW X5 which we believe was involved in the collision.

"The vehicle was located at an address in Co. Donegal on Monday evening and has now been recovered to a PSNI establishment for a forensic examination to be carried out. "

He added: "We are subsequently following a definite line of enquiry in relation to the collision and hope to progress our investigation in the near future.

“I would however continue to ask anyone who has not yet spoken with police, but who witnessed the collision or has dash-cam footage of the collision, to contact detectives in Omagh on 101 quoting reference number 958 31/05/20.”
