Petrol bombs thrown as PSNI deal with Derry security alert

Petrol bombs have been thrown at the PSNI as they deal with an ongoing security alert in Derry.

Officers have come under attack while investigating a suspicious object on the Skeoge Road in the city's northern suburbs.

The road has been closed.

"We are currently dealing with a suspicious object on the Skeoge Road and have had petrol bombs thrown at us from Galliagh Park as we work to ensure the safety of residents. Please stay indoors or leave the area if you do not live there," a PSNI spokesperson said.

People have been asked to avoid the area. The link road was closed at approximately 8 p.m.

"There's a security alert on Skeoge Road in Derry/Londonderry. The road has been closed and the public should avoid the area," the PSNI spokesperson said.
