Teenager shot in Derry - 'No place for such barbaric acts in our city'

Politicians across Derry have condemned those behind the shooting of a teenager in the latest in a series of violent attacks in the city.

The youth, aged in his late teens, was shot in the leg at Milldale Crescent area of Currynierin in Derry on Saturday night.

A PSNI spokesperson said shortly afterwards: "The shooting was reported shortly after 9pm this evening and the male has now been taken to hospital for treatment. Anyone with information please call 101 quoting ref number 2092 27/02/21."

Sinn Féin Waterside Councillor Paul Fleming has condemned the shooting.

Colr. Paul Fleming said: “The shooting of a teenager in Currynierin is wrong and I condemn it.

“There is no place for guns on our streets and those responsible should get off the backs of the community.

“Anyone with information on what happened should bring it forward to police.”

SDLP Waterside Cole Martin Reilly said: "The shooting of a young man in Currynierin is completely wrong and there can be no justification for such a brutal act.

"Anyone with information on who carried out this shooting should get in touch with the PSNI immediately or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

Alliance Councillor for the Waterside Philip McKinney was also among those who condemned the shooting.

Colr. McKinney said: "There is no place for these barbaric acts in our society."
