Two people escape injury as mattress is placed at door and torched by arsonists in Derry

Two people escaped injury after a mattress was placed against the front door of a house and set ablaze by arsonists in the Bond's Street area of Derry this morning.

Police at Strand Road are appealing for information and witnesses.

They issued the appeal following a report of the arson attack at a property in the Pine Street area in the early hours of Thursday, 1st October.

It was reported that at around 1am, a mattress was set against the front door of the property and set alight, causing extensive damage to the front door of the property.

The fire was extinguished by NIFRS.

Two residents were home at the time of the incident, however there were no injuries.

Detective Sergeant Burns said: “Enquiries are ongoing and police would ask for anyone who has information to contact them at Stand Road on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 79 of 01/10/20.
