Kirsty Lavy, of Argyle Street, is charged with assaulting, resisting and obstructing police on April 29.

Derry Magistrate’s Court heard that police attended the 22-year-old’s home address and found her asleep on the sofa. Officers tried to rouse her and it appeared she was highly intoxicated, in breach of bail conditions, it was claimed.

It is alleged Lavy became ‘extremely violent’ and lunged at an officer. A number of police officers were required to restrain the defendant and it is alleged she lashed out and kicked one of them on the thigh. She was arrested and she allegedly said she was going to ‘blow up’ a police officer and get the IRA to kill the officer.

As she was transported to custody she allegedly kicked, punched and headbutted the inside of the police vehicle.

Police opposed bail for fears of further offending and further breaches of bail.

Defence solicitor Don Mahoney said his client has drug and alcohol issues and only recently come to the attention of police following a family tragedy.

He added that she could be released with a condition to engage with addiction services.

Bail was refused and Lavy was remanded in custody until May 28.
