Cusack issues bulky lift fire warning

SDLP Councillor Shauna Cusack has warned those who are considering placing items for this week's Council bulky waste collection in the Foyleside District Electoral Area (DEA) to be cautious.

She said: “I have been informed by residents in the Creggan Road area that some items which have been placed kerbside early for the bulky waste collection by Council, have been set alight.

“This is concerning given that the collection will last over four days and for health or help purposes some households have the items ready and in place early. The collection, which runs from Monday to Thursday will cover the areas of Hatmore, Kylemore, Rosemount and The Glen.

“Frustratingly, there are always those who think destruction is fun and have no regard for the safety of others. They see this material as a magnet for their reckless actions.

“I would therefore encourage anyone with items to be removed to please put them on collection points as late as possible to avoid a situation which could escalate to something more sinister. Meanwhile I understand that the authorities are conducting door to door enquiries regarding this recent incident.”
