Derry born business man seeking seat in Seanad Eireann

The highly successful businessman announced today that he will make a bid for a seat in the upper house of the Oireachtas. He was nominated by business group Ibec to sit on the Seanad’s industrial and commercial panel.

Peter Casey is the founder and chief executive of recruitment company Claddagh Resources which places high level executives woth large consulting and IT firms. He has pledged that he will push businesses to relocate to rural Ireland if he secures a seat.

To run for the Seanad independent candidates must receive the backing of a nominated body, large representative organisations in fields such as business or agriculture.

Speaking to TheJournal.ie Casey said wants to see “less politicians” in the Seanad.

“We need less politicians in politics and more businessmen making business decisions,” he said.

Casey said he would aim to provide tax relief on the initial earnings of returning emigrants.

“There is a lot of cost associated with people coming back, you have to physically pack up and move, by the time you get a job you’re (spending money) too,” he said.

Peter Casey at was born in Derry and the third of nine children (five boys and four girls). His mother Patsy Casey was deputy headmistress at Nazareth House Primary School and his father Leo was the bursar at local grammar school St Columb’s College.

Casey attended both schools before studying business administration politics and economics at Aston University in Birmingham. He lives in Atlanta with his wife, Helen, and their five children and divides his time between there, his family home in Derry and their home in Greencastle, Donegal.
